A Bit About Me
Opal lives in Atlanta, GA, and recently graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A. in English and a concentration in pre-education. She is a poet, barista/server, and has about ten years of various educational experience roles. Her research focused on Mallarmé, Baudelaire, Poe, and generally is interested in the transcontinental exchange between poets and critics in France and along the East Coast in America between the 1800s and mid-1900s. She hopes to attain her MA in English - Literary Studies and eventually her PH.D. in Creative Writing. Some of her favorite contemporary poets include Natasha Trethewey, Rachel McKibbens, Jerico Brown, and Danielle Deulen.

The main focus in her own creative writing is understanding perspectives and relationships; her own, her loved ones, strangers, anyone at all. Her writing is deeply inspired by confessional poets and surrealist imagery. She has also begun dipping her toes into creative nonfiction.
